What it therapy?

In my opinion, therapy is more than just a conversation. It’s an opportunity…

“7 Tips for Surviving Therapy”

1 . The content of your therapy sessions is confidential.

Naturally, there are some limits to this. When we meet for our first session, we will discuss, the reasons I may have to break confidentiality (for example - if I believe you may try to harm yourself). But not to worry, your secrets will be safe in this office.

2 . Keep looking until you find a good match.

Your psychologist should be someone that makes you feel comfortable. He or she should encourage exploration and self-discovery, but also someone that you want to explore these areas with. If you do not feel comfortable with your therapist, keep looking until you find the right fit.

3 . Therapy is not designed to last forever.

The purpose of therapy is to help you develop the skills necessary to live a FULL life….without a therapist. If your therapist makes you feel that he or she is someone you will need for a lifetime…run!

4. Check your psychologists credentials.

In general, the differences between psychotherapist, therapist, life coach, counselor, psychoanalyst, and psychologist are a matter of education and training. However, in France, your clinician must be registered with L'Agence Regionale de Santé and receive an ADELI number to practice under the title of psychologue.

5. You can choose what you want to talk about.

On the one hand, your psychologist should be someone that you trust to give you a gentle nudge to explore those dark areas that give you some discomfort, but with resolution will ultimately improve your quality of life. However, in the end, this session time is yours and…you decide which issues to address.

6. Ask about online therapy sessions.

If you are not located in the Paris area, I am able to schedule online sessions via Zoom.

7. There are many therapy styles.

There are many different “modalities” of therapy. Side note: “modality” is just a fancy word for styles. For me, I believe that each intervention used should have a specific purpose for bringing awareness and insight. My therapy sessions are interactive and I may suggest “homework” assignments to help you maintain your progress outside of therapy. My goal is to help you feel motivated and inspired all week long (not just during your therapy session).
